Toy Manufacturer Unveils Fake Steering Wheel For Autonomous Vehicles

Playskool, a maker of children’s toys, unveiled a new brightly-colored fake steering wheel that can be mounted in self-driving vehicles that have no driver controls.

Playskool’s non-functional steering wheel is attached to the dashboard using a single suction cup

“People with trust and control disorders can place their hands on the non-functional wheel and ‘follow along’ as the car steers itself around corners and obstacles,” said Playskool spokesperson Koala Krypton.  “It really calms them down.”

“No way would I ride in a car without a steering wheel,” insisted freelance cat barber Borg Spooler after viewing a photo of an autonomous car with no driver controls. But shown the flat-bottomed yellow plastic Playskool wheel, Spooler, a self-described “control freak”, nodded and said, “Yeah, no, that might be okay.”

Playskool’s wheel features a large red horn button that squeaks like a compressed guinea pig when honked.  “We’re also developing a sport model with shift paddles,” whispered Meeker.  “But you didn’t hear that from me.”
