Mercedes SL’s New Rear-Facing Video Monitors Keep Other Motorists Entertained

Pricey luxury roadsters are stuffed with digital display monitors nowadays, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL included. 

But what’s unique about the redesigned roadster’s rear-facing headrest-mounted video screens is that neither of the two occupants can see them.

“Like some other available options, such as the illuminated Mercedes-Benz logo, it serves the purpose of communicating to others the owner’s station in life,” explained Mercedes spokesperson Umlaut Schmidt, whose real name is Gladys Sanchez.  

Others, however, disagree. “It’s dangerous,” said Benno D’Ognard, a self-described performance artist who walked by on wooden stilts as we interviewed Schmidt-Sanchez. “Other drivers will tailgate for miles just so they can watch a movie.”  

Once again, Hyundai declined to comment.
