Next Volvo XC60 Blends Classic Design Cues With Modern Styling
There’s no doubt about it; Volvo’s redesigned XC90 crossover is a hit. In fact, last month, it was the top selling Swedish-Chinese turbocharged and supercharged CUV with a crystal glass shift lever. That’s quite an accomplishment.
But some are questioning whether Volvo’s redesigned smaller CUV, the XC60 — which is due out next year — can also strike sales gold. The reason? It’s pretty funky looking.
“We tried to blend classic Volvo design elements with modern cues,” explained Volvo’s design director Klabbe Förkortning. That includes a mashup of old school PV544-style fenders with the current XC90’s “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights.
While combining old and new styling details is nothing new, and it works for some vehicles including the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang, we think the XC60 looks more like a palm sander with fenders. And Thor’s Hammer lights.
