Chinese Automaker Inadvertently Produces a Knockoff of Its Own Vehicle

Chinese auto engineers are dismayed to learn their newly unveiled car (R) is a copy of their existing car (L)

Yanghua Motors engineers were dismayed to learn their newly unveiled car (R) is an exact copy of their existing vehicle, the Yanghua Darling Bucket (L)

While final numbers haven’t yet been disclosed, it’s estimated that China produced approximately 23-million passenger vehicles in 2015.  All but about nine of them are knockoffs of other manufacturers’ designs, including Rolls-Royce, Range Rover and Jeep, to name a few.

But according to global automotive reporter Splenda Peckham, China’s Yanghua Motors has mistakenly built a new vehicle that is an identical copy of one of its own cars.

“It had to catch up with them sooner or later,” said Peckham.  “They’ve copied everyone else’s designs and now they’ve copied their own.”
