Combine Google’s fleet of driverless vehicles with Uber’s ever-expanding ride service and the result is GooBER, an innovative new way to get from Point A to Point B.

On Monday, Parksplug staffers used the GooBER app to request a ride and within minutes, a self-driving vehicle arrived to whisk us to our destination, a trendy new crematorium/tequila bar situated next to the Greyhound station.
While enroute, an instrumental version of Nickelback’s Another Hole in the Head played softly through the car’s speakers. We were happy to see that GooBER utilizes the Lexus RX 350 crossover instead of the tiny Google autonomous car that resembles a strapless CPAP mask.

GooBER spokesperson Melatonia Kimsquit said riders can either proceed to their desired location or press the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button on the car’s dashboard, which is akin to telling the vehicle, “surprise me!” While that sounds adventurous, rider Dougie Hoglung, who hired GooBER to take him to his hotel, recommends skipping that option. “After driving me all over frickin’ downtown Wagon Mound for two hours, the car dropped me off at Dollar Tree. I didn’t want to go to Dollar Tree,” Hoglung complained.
Others, however, speak glowingly of the service. “I hate people, so I love the fact there’s no driver,” chirped 32-year-old Salmon, an artist who claims to have no last name and specializes in hypodermic needlepoint. “Now leave me the f**k alone,” he shouted before stomping off.
