Caught on Camera! 2019 Mini Cooper-Based Rolls-Royce!

You can imagine how surprised London-based Parksplug photographer Tupac Pickett was to encounter a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirt, the automaker’s new Mini-based coupe, motoring along a country lane.  Or perhaps you can’t.

Aston-Martin's tiny Cygnet, built on a Scion IQ platform, fizzled. Will the Rolls Silver Spirt suffer the same fate?

The Rolls Silver Spirt is based on the Mini Cooper

Anyway, besides alluding to the car’s diminutive size, the Silver Spirt name also pays homage to Rolls’ much larger Silver Spirit sedan that went out of production in 1999.

While Rolls-Royce declined to comment, we’re guessing the Spirt will be equipped with the 228-horsepower 2.0 liter four from Mini’s John Cooper Works model.

“The engine is actually smaller than the rear seat refrigerator in a Phantom,” chuckled a Rolls dealer who demanded anonymity.  And a Cadbury bar.

No release date or pricing information for the Spirt was available at press time, which was right around 3:25.

Like other Rolls-Royces, the Silver Spirt features the captivating twinkling LED Starlight Headliner.  However, since the Spirt’s ceiling is so much smaller, there isn’t room for an entire constellation and only the planets of our solar system dot the headliner, with the exception of Uranus, which was excluded because Rolls thought it “sounded vulgar.”
