Sinkholes Have Gotten a Lot Pickier About Which Cars They’ll Swallow, Notes Geologist
Sinkholes have become much more choosy and won’t swallow up just any vehicle anymore, said Egret Funston, a professor of geology at the University of Lanky Mound.
“We first noticed it with the sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum in 2014,” said Funston. “Since then, these craters seem to concentrate on swallowing expensive or classic vehicles while leaving more mundane ones behind.”
To illustrate her point, Funston displayed a photograph of a recent sinkhole in Syphillis Beach, Florida. “See, it swallowed a Jag and a Corvette, but not the old Buick or Subaru,” she pointed out.
Funston recommended that owners of expensive vehicles check to ensure they have sinkhole coverage on their insurance policies.
