Camaro Owners: Don’t Try to Make Your Own “Flowtie” Badge

Camaro fans went crazy when the 2014  Z/28 debuted with the airflow-enhancing “Flowtie,” silhouette grille emblem.

“I absolutely had to have one for my Camaro,” said Nullen Voyd, owner of a red 2017 SS.

Nullen Voyd calls his efforts to modify his Camaro’s “Bowtie” emblem into a “Flowtie” an “epic fail.”

But some owners — including Voyd — who tried to save money by modifying their Camaro’s standard “Bowtie” grille emblem themselves say it’s not as easy as it looks.

“I started out trying to hollow out the emblem with a cordless drill and jigsaw,” said the downtrodden Voyd, “but after that didn’t work, I used a chainsaw.”

Voyd, who is now facing a costly reconstruction of the front of his car, recommends that other Camaro owners just pony up the $150 or so for an aftermarket Flowtie grille.  “I wish I’d done that,” he said as he kicked a broken piece of plastic bumper skin.
