BMW Stretches Body Panel So Model Name Will Fit
Careful, or you’ll rip your shirt.
BMW’s new high-performance plug-in 5 Series hybrid has a name so long they might as well call it “BMW’s new high-performance plug-in 5 Series hybrid.”
In fact, the automaker had to extend the upper rear body panel so the entire “M Sport 5L xDrive iPerformance” badging would fit.
We wondered, why didn’t BMW just move the script over to the left instead of lengthening the panel? We asked company spokesperson Uwe Weyoo, who replied, “When it comes to our vehicles we never compromise. Never.” He then accidentally walked into the sharp-edged panel, bending it and ripping a hole in his $275 Battistoni dress shirt.
