Over-Styled Vehicles Are Injuring Car Wash Workers, Say Experts. Well, One Expert.

Auto detailers and car wash employees are being put at risk by the creases, crevices, peaks and mesh grilles that are part of the design of many new vehicles, says a leading workplace accident researcher.

Car wash employee Toby Buzzello is forced to carry around this Lexus grille.  His index finger became stuck when he tried to towel dry a mesh hole.

“They’re very dangerous,” exclaimed Dr. Taffy Plowhead of the University of Gangrene.

“One car wash employee lacerated his hand on the side crease of a Hyundai Elantra,” said Plowhead. “His hand was bleeding so badly they had to pour Stop Leak on it.  The car manufacturers just don’t care.”

Closer to home, although we’re not sure whose home, Toby Buzzello, a worker at Kleen Machine Car Wash in downtown Helper Springs told Parksplug that, two weeks ago, his left index finger became wedged in the woven mesh grille of a Lexus IS.

“The fire department couldn’t get my finger out, so they had to take off the grille,” said Buzzello, who can’t afford to have the 37-pound spindle grille removed. “It’s really hard to get my shirt on and off,” he complained.

Co-workers have set up a GoFundMe site to pay to have the grille removed.  “We have $9.00 so far,” Buzzello said.
