You Read It Here First! Ford To Build Price Leader V-6 Shelby GT 3.50!
Ford has been pretty tight-lipped about the possibility of a more affordable six-cylinder Shelby model — dubbed the GT 3.50 — joining the Mustang lineup. But that was before Parksplug spy photographer Bucky Wedge snapped an admittedly crappy photo of the car at a Ford test facility (he claimed he was fleeing a security guard and an irritable three-legged dog at the time).
At a press conference yesterday, Ford spokesman Rudyard Nooner acknowledged that the car exists. “The GT 3.50, as the name implies, will be equipped with a version of the corporate 3.5 Ti-VCT V-6 engine. And, no, I don’t know if it will be turbocharged, how much it will cost, when it will go on sale, how fast it will go or what Ti-VCT stands for, so don’t ask,” he barked. He evidently dislikes Mondays.
We’ve also learned that each GT 3.50 will include a billet aluminum dashboard plaque signed by Carlos Shelby, the adopted son of the late Carroll Shelby. An automotive non-enthusiast, Carlos runs a small plaque and trophy inscribing business out of his garage.
