Parksplug Review: The 2016 Ford Transit Disconnect
We’ve loved Ford’s Transit Connect since it hit U.S. shores for the 2010 model year. The compact van is fuel efficient and will carry seven passengers or a payload of up to 1,620 pounds.
That’s why we’re elated to hear that Ford will soon begin production of the Transit Disconnect, a Transit Connect spinoff that is tailor made for those who find themselves transporting a carload of insufferable imbeciles or a smelly old reclining chair that needs to disappear in the middle of the night.
“With a simple click of a switch, the rear half of the van — and its unwanted cargo — is jettisoned,” explained Ford spokesman Mutt Lokey, who noted that replacement van posteriors can be purchased from any Ford dealership.
During our short road test of the Transit Disconnect, Parksplug staffers filled the van with a half-dozen dolts who begin every sentence with, “So…” and hit the dashboard disconnect switch while traveling up a steep hill. A loud thunk and some scraping noises were immediately following by blissful silence.
So…why would anyone buy a Transit Connect when you can get a Transit Disconnect for just a few hundred dollars more?
