Motor Trend Staffers’ Attempt to Take Back 1971 Chevy Vega’s Car of the Year Trophy Thwarted

A small group of Motor Trend staffers allegedly stormed Chevrolet’s Detroit headquarters yesterday, demanding the return of the ’71 Chevy Vega’s Car of the Year trophy.

“The editors back then weren’t thinking clearly.  After all, it was the 70’s, ” explained Motor Trend Subordinate Editor Pee Wee Buntsen, adding, “A Vega as Car of the Year?  Come on….we all know that’s f*cked up.”  Bentsen said the group took action because the last Motor Trend guy who voted for the Vega is now dead.

Police said the group of automotive editors stormed through the front doors of the automaker’s headquarters and unsuccessfully tried to open the doors of a glass showcase holding the tarnished Car of the Year trophy.

“They couldn’t get it open,” said Chevrolet spokesperson Doilee Pudd-Funkton. “They were pushing on the knob instead of pulling it.”
