Mercedes Says If You Want a C-Class, You Also Have to Buy a Metris

Sales of Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class sedan are on fire, but that’s not the case with the automaker’s new-to-America compact Metris van.

To alleviate the growing glut of vans occupying dealership lots, Mercedes has commanded that beginning Monday, customers buying or leasing a new C-Class will be required to also purchase a Metris.

Apollo DelVonkia, who admits he looks a lot like a cardboard cutout, loves his new C-Class, but his Metris sits unused in the side yard

“We think once customers experience the Metris, they’ll be pleased that they were forced to buy one,” said Mercedes spokesperson Hibiscus Marie Squench.

But recent C-Class buyer Apollo DelVonkia disagreed, saying, “I’m not a plumber, why do I want a cargo van?”

DelVonkia said the Metris sits unused in his side yard.  “I’ve tried to sell it, but everyone who comes out to look at it wants to buy my C-Class instead.”
